Why are we TEDx-ing?
8 Sep
We had a meeting this weekend of some of the volunteers who are helping to organize TEDx, and goal for the meeting was to answer this question: WHY TEDx? Why are we doing this–putting our time, energy, and money into making this event?
Collectively, we decided this:
We want to bring the TED model for sharing “Ideas Worth Spreading” to Phnom Penh in order to further a movement of collaboration, inspiration, and innovation in Cambodia.
TEDx has rules which we need to follow, one of which restricts us to only 100 people at this event. As such, in order to continue to fuel a “movement” of idea sharing, we want our involvement in TEDx to be much greater than one single event on one day in early 2011. We are looking to:
- Spark conversation and interest in inspiring ideas through social media (Twitter, Facebook, this blog) before, during, and after the event
- Connect people to other interesting groups and upcoming events such as BarCamp (September 25, 2010), Trampoline Unconference (Early 2011), and Khmer Young Entrepreneurs Meetings (Ongoing)
- Offer more than one TEDx event in Cambodia (with YOUR help for future events!)
We are going to connect you with TED talks we love, interesting new ideas, and updates about the process we are going through to create Cambodia’s first TEDx.
Follow along!
